Health Tech Jam
Background:
Our team created an application concept based on the prompt:
”Use technology to change health care in our community and around the world”. We pitched the idea for app that could bring people looking to improve their health through exercise together into a close-knit, supportive community. Our team was awarded the People’s Choice award.

Process
The Health Tech Jam was a fun, fast-paced event: we worked over a weekend to create a pitch for a wellness app that addressed a community healthcare issue. I worked with another medical illustrator (Ryan Nini) and two Physical Therapy students (John Latoja and Josh Beymer).
We noted that many exercise apps focus on competitive game mechanics to motivate users. We recognized that while this type of application can be encouraging for some, it can be discouraging for others, especially those with underlying health conditions.
We were inspired by geo-caching and Alcoholics Anonymous to create an application that fostered a community of support and encouragement. We devised a system that would promote positively contributing members to mentor roles where they would assist newcomers to the app on their wellness journey.
Final pitch
We created a wire-frame and a promotional slide deck to go along with a presentation on our application concept. Below are some mock ups that Ryan Nini and I collaborated on for the presentation.
